Part III - In Depth:
The final portion of OTZMA lets you bring the experience together as you live in one of Israel’s two major cities and you work in an organization whose main goal is improving social status of Israel’s citizens and helping to make sure that the dream of the Zionist State is realized!

There are so many wonderful Jewish organizations both in Israel and throughout the world whose goal is to make sure that the Jewish ideals of Tikun Olam (World Improvement) are properly implemented.  During this stage of the program each participant will work in a top level non-profit organization that is dedicated to making real change.

Note: If there are three or more participants that are interested in living on a kibbutz during this period of time accommodations can be made.

Living Arrangements:  Participants will live in convenient locations in either Tel Aviv or Jerusalem.

All participants will have apartments or be living in apartment style dorms which are fully furnished, with kitchen and wireless internet.  Because this is apartment style living you will be responsible for preparing your own meals in an equipped kitchen.

Internships: All internships will be coordinated the OTZMA staff while you are in Israel.

Holidays During Part III:

  • Profile of Tel Aviv on 60 Minutes
    Passover/Spring Break
(April 13-21):  Celebrating the exodus from Egypt.  OTZMA participants will have the week off and may use it for traveling inside and outside of Israel.  Participants will also have the option of spending the Seder with their adoptive families.  It is important to note that this is a beautiful time of year for hiking through the hills and swimming through the streams of Northern Israel.   There will also be many music and art festivals throughout the country.

  • Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day):  As a group we will solemnly remember the darkest period in our past and we will look forward optimistically towards our bright future.

  • Yom HaZicaron (Memorial Day) and Yom Ha'atzmaut (Independence Day):  On Memorial Day we will join the brave people of Israel in remembering the lives of Israel’s brightest and bravest souls who have perished defending the State.  Exactly one day later we will celebrate Independence Day.  This year will mark 67 years since the declaration of the State of Israel.  When in Rome do as the Romans do, when in Israel do as the Israelis do.  We will break out the Mangal (BBQ) and celebrate Israel’s birthday as we have some fun in the sun!

  • Lag B’Omer (33rd Day of the Omer):  Today in Israel Lag B’Omer is celebrated by lighting huge bonfires and remembering the Jewish peoples determined spirit and desire to be free in the face of persecution and slavery.

  • Shavuot (The Festival of the Weeks):  The festival of the weeks celebrates the giving of the Torah to the people of Israel at Mt. Sinai.   There is an Israeli tradition both Religious and Secular to stay awake the entire night and study about our people, our traditions and our history.  Each participant will choose how he cares to spend the evening!

Free Time:  The third stage of the program includes the Passover break for 9 days and it is the only extended break you will have until the end of the program.   As usual participants can spend weekends traveling in or out of Israel as they wish.
